About the project

NOISE – Nodes of Influence, Spheres of Exchange examines Anglo-Swiss economic networks between 1920 and 1950 through the lens of the British Chamber of Commerce for Switzerland (BSCC). Founded in 1920, the BSCC played a key role in maintaining commercial connections between Britain and Switzerland during a period shaped by crises, reconstruction, and shifting global trade relations.

The project brings together scattered historical sources, including BSCC trade indexes (1921–1958) and the British Black List (1946–1948). It applies digital methods such as text mining, database construction, and network analysis to explore how economic actors and institutions interacted across time and space. All data and results are openly accessible.

The project is funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) under grant 211961 and will run until October 2026.
